Dental Veneers
Q. What exactly are veneers?
A: Veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth to improve how they look. They can change the colour, shape, size, and overall symmetry of your smile. Veneers are commonly used to cover chips, stains, gaps, worn edges, or uneven teeth. The goal is to create a natural-looking smile that still suits your face and bite.
Q: Will veneers straighten my teeth?
A: Veneers don't physically move teeth, but they can visually correct mild misalignments, chips, or gaps.
Q: Will they hurt / how much enamel is removed?
A: Only a small layer of enamel is removed, and the procedure is done under local anaesthetic for comfort.
Q: How long do veneers last and how do I care for them?
A: Porcelain veneers can last 10–15+ years with good hygiene. Avoid biting on hard objects, open packets with your hands (not your teeth), and attend six-monthly cleans.
Q: Can I whiten veneers later?
A: Whitening doesn't affect veneers. Always whiten your natural teeth before getting veneers placed.
Q: What happens if a veneer comes off?
A: Contact our Capalaba team right away. We can often re-bond or replace it quickly to restore your smile.
Q: Are veneers reversible?
A: Because enamel is removed, veneers are a long-term solution rather than reversible. Discuss longevity, shade, and maintenance with our dentist before starting treatment.
Q: Am I a good candidate?
A: Most adults with healthy gums and teeth are suitable. If you have decay, grinding, or gum issues, we'll treat those first before starting veneer work.
Q: Will you shave my teeth down to "stumps"?
A: No. Modern veneers are planned for minimal enamel reduction. The amount removed (if any) depends on your bite, tooth position and desired outcome, and is explained before treatment.
Q: Do veneers stain easily?
A: Porcelain veneers are highly stain-resistant. Good home care and regular cleans help keep them looking their best.
Q: Can I do a few teeth only?
A: Yes. We'll advise how many veneers will blend naturally with your smile.
Teeth Whitening
Q: What options are available?
A: We offer professional in-chair whitening (around 60–75 minutes) and custom take-home kits for gradual brightening. Both use dental-grade gels that are stronger and safer than store products.
Q: Will my teeth become extremely white?
A: Whitening results depend on your original shade and enamel. Most patients see several shades of improvement that look naturally brighter — not artificial.
Q: Will whitening damage my teeth?
A: Under dentist supervision, whitening is safe. You might feel short-term sensitivity, which usually settles within 24–48 hours.
Q: Will whitening change the colour of crowns or veneers?
A: No, whitening only affects natural enamel. If you have restorations, we'll match your shade carefully before treatment.
Q: How long will results last?
A: Usually 6–12 months depending on coffee, tea, red wine, and smoking habits. We'll advise maintenance top-ups to keep your smile bright.
Q: Should I whiten before or after veneers/crowns?
A: Always whiten first — because porcelain doesn't change colour. We'll plan your sequence carefully to ensure an even result.
Q: Is it suitable for everyone?
A: Whitening isn't ideal for pregnant women, children, or those with severe enamel wear. Your dentist will check suitability before starting.
Invisible Aligners
Q: Will people notice the aligners?
A: They are clear and low-profile; most people don't notice them day-to-day.
Q: Are aligners faster than braces?
A: Some cases complete quickly; others take longer. We'll recommend the most efficient, predictable approach for your situation.
Q: What if I lose a tray?
A: Call us. We'll advise whether to step back/forward or reorder so treatment stays on track.
Q: Do I need retainers?
A: Yes. Retainers help maintain your result after active treatment.
Q: What is the cost?
A: The cost is between $4,000 to $8,000 depending on your treatment complexity.
Teeth Crowns
Q: Why do I need a crown?
A: A dental crown protects and restores a weakened tooth — often due to a large filling, fracture, or after root canal treatment. At Capalaba Park Dental Studio, we use high-quality porcelain and E-max crowns to bring strength and natural appearance back to your smile.
Q: What materials are used for crowns and how do I pick?
A: We offer full ceramic, porcelain, zirconia, and metal options. Our dentists will recommend the best choice depending on your tooth location, appearance goals, and budget.
Q: How long will my crown last?
A: With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, your crown can last 10–15 years or longer. Many of our Capalaba and Birkdale patients still have their crowns intact after more than a decade.
Q: Will it hurt / what's the recovery like?
A: The crown procedure is done under local anaesthetic. You won't feel pain during the appointment. Some mild sensitivity is normal for a few days afterward.
Q: What should I avoid after the crown is placed?
A: Avoid very hard or sticky foods initially. If you're wearing a temporary crown, chew on the opposite side. After placement, maintain good brushing and flossing habits.
Q: Can the crown fall off or become loose?
A: While rare, it can happen due to decay underneath, grinding, or trauma. If it ever feels loose, call our Capalaba clinic immediately so we can re-cement or replace it safely.
Q: Will it look like my natural tooth?
A: Yes. We custom match the colour, shape, and translucency of your surrounding teeth for a seamless look — especially for front teeth visible in your smile.
Q: Is it covered by health funds?
A: Most health funds cover dental crowns under major restorative services. Bring your card — we can check your rebate instantly through HICAPS.
Missing Teeth
Q: What are my options for missing teeth?
A: For detailed information about missing teeth options, please contact our dental team or book a consultation. Our experienced dentists will provide personalized answers based on your specific needs and dental health.
Payment Plans
Q: Is there any interest I need to pay?
A: If you choose the Humm interest-free option (for up to 3 years), you'll pay no interest. Other plans may have small fees or interest depending on provider, term and your approval. We explain all terms clearly before your decision.
Q: Am I eligible for a payment plan?
A: Eligibility generally requires being 18 or older, employed or financially stable, and passing the provider's application process (which may include a soft credit check). You apply online and often receive instant approval.
Q: Is a deposit required before starting treatment?
A: For treatments under $10,000, no deposit is required. Once your plan is approved and documentation completed, you can begin treatment with no deposit.
Q: Can I use payment plans for any dental treatment?
A: Yes. Our payment plan options cover general, cosmetic and restorative treatments—including veneers, crowns, clear aligners, implants, and more. We'll discuss eligibility and terms specific to your situation.
Q: Can I pay off my treatment early?
A: Yes. Most providers allow early repayment without penalty. We'll review your terms so you know any fees (if applicable) before you commit.
Q: What happens if I miss a payment?
A: If you fall behind, the provider will contact you. It's important to stay in touch; many providers offer flexible options to keep your plan on track. Missed payments may impact your eligibility for future plans.
Q: How many weekly payments will I have?
A: That depends on the provider, your chosen term (e.g., 6, 12, 24 or 36 months) and your treatment cost. We'll show you a clear breakdown during your consultation, so you know your weekly budget before proceeding.
Q: Will I still need to pay anything up front on the day?
A: Not required once you get approved.
Wisdom Teeth
Q: Should I have my wisdom teeth removed?
A: For detailed information about wisdom teeth, please contact our dental team or book a consultation. Our experienced dentists will provide personalized answers based on your specific needs and dental health.
Bleeding Gums
Q: What causes bleeding gums?
A: For detailed information about bleeding gums, please contact our dental team or book a consultation. Our experienced dentists will provide personalized answers based on your specific needs and dental health.
Kids Dental Treatment Cost
Q: What is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)?
A: The CDBS is a Medicare-funded program that covers eligible children for basic and preventive dental services such as check-ups, x-rays, cleans, fillings and extractions, up to a capped amount over two calendar years.
Q: What age should I start bringing my child to the dentist?
A: We recommend bringing your child for their first visit by age one or within six months of the first tooth erupting. Early visits help your child become comfortable in the dental environment and allow us to spot potential issues before they develop.
Q: Which children are eligible for bulk-billed Medicare dental visits?
A: Children aged 2 to 17 years who are eligible for Medicare and whose families receive certain government benefits may qualify for the CDBS. We can check eligibility instantly with your Medicare number before treatment.
Q: What if my child is not eligible under bulk billing? How much does treatment cost?
A: If your child is not eligible for the CDBS, we offer affordable fixed pricing for check-ups and cleans: Children under 12 years — $149. Children aged 12 to 16 years — $199. These appointments include a gentle clean, examination, and fluoride treatment if suitable.
Q: What treatments are covered by the CDBS?
A: Preventive and basic care such as check-ups, cleans, x-rays, fillings and fissure sealants. More advanced or cosmetic treatments aren't included, but we'll explain all costs up front and can offer family payment plans.
Q: Will I have to pay anything out of pocket for bulk-billed visits?
A: No. For eligible CDBS patients, Capalaba Park Dental Studio bulk bills directly to Medicare, so you pay nothing out of pocket for covered services.
Q: How often should my child see the dentist?
A: Every six months for routine check-ups helps keep teeth and gums healthy and lets us catch any small issues early.
Q: Can I use private health insurance and the CDBS together?
A: No. You cannot claim the same service through both Medicare and a private fund. We can advise which option is most beneficial for your family at the time of your visit.
